Tesla Coil upcoming meeting - Sunday, January 29th

If you are going to the Tesla Coil group, the plan is to design a fairly large system, we will video VLOG the process and hopefully donate it when complete to a Technical highschool or something.

Does anyone have any ideas on the high voltage capacitors?
I guess we can make the secondary or just order off of ebay, we will have to buy the Neon Transformer.

Do you have a specification for the design that you can share?

When and where is this group meeting??
What specs for the neon transformer??

Old school tank circuit of modern DRSSTC?

I can source the neon transformers, have a friend that owns a sign company.

I plan on building a Tank circuit

E Lab had a donation a while back that included 2 neon transformers. Think they are 9 Kv 30 ma. They are untested.

I’m all for high power, medium frequency generators, but please bear in mind that these coils can be lethal.

Read, and comprehend, the following excellent safety information:

I want to make a Tesla Coil video like the one I made for the dueling tree

have you made one before?

Nope, just seen them in operation. I used to make plasma globes with TV fly-back transformers, like this one:

BTW, awesome MEMS fabrication video! Reminds me of when our fab here was still in operation.

I’ll just drop this right here.

EDIT: I should add that their big Tesla Coil almost burnt down their hackerspace. A piece of hot tungsten from their spark gap got flung into a corner and eventually ignited overnight.

Did a search for vacuum tube Tesla coil driver.
The warm glow of vacuum tube(s) accentuated by the glow of corona discharge.

Best of both worlds. The tube based coils I have seen have very unique sparks.

great! Really excited about that!

I can bring the big Van de Graff to get us a little sparky fun.

 sounds great! This is gonna be a great project!

Any chance that I/we could have a chance to demo the finished product to a local Boy Scout group before donating? See you on the 29th.

yes! of course we can!
