UTA has asked DMS to participate in an interactive exhibit from noon to 6 pm
I posted the basics on PR Slack a few weeks ago but UTA is asking for a solid yes / no for commitment so I need responses from members if there is interest.
UTA is open to suggestions about what DMS would like to exhibit but in the conversation they specifically mentioned things like woodworking, lasercutting, and robotics. This year’s theme is along the lines of spark / neon and bright ideas.
I am willing to coordinate, help with transportation and set-up, man the area for the day, etc. but I need to know if there are interested people / groups willing to bring their projects for the day. I can probably work out something with a rotating schedule so folks don’t have to be there for the full 6 hours each but I need an idea if there is interest / support for the DMS participation at UTA. Thanks!
I have a 600,000 volt Van de Graaff Generator we can demo. It can make 26" sparks and can light florescent/neon tubes. Is that close enough for your topic?
UTA is looking for us to participate by bringing projects for an interactive exhibit so that folks coming to TedX can look at them in between speakers. This is a community, public event so it is a great opportunity to let a variety of people know about DMS.
Dallas Area Robot Combat (we’re part of the RC Committee) would be willing to bring some “bots” out for display.
They’re not technically robots but they look cool.
One of our members has a 260lb bot that competed at the old battlebots events.
The event runs from noon to 6 pm so, no doubt, they will allow us access in advance to get set up. Does that give you the information you need to plan ahead? I will also ask additional questions to get more clarification about the time.
I’ve got some antweights, including one dating back to 2002, one from the old Texas group, and a rare example of a “Plastic Ant.” Would be glad to bring them for display at the DARC table.
I previously asked about space and was told that space was not a problem. They have a theatre-type huge room. I just need to give them an idea in advance of what we are bringing and what our needs are and they will accommodate.
Anyone who is still considering participating, can you please let me know today? Also, in final preparation, for those who are attending, can you please tell me:
Do you need electric outlet(s) or wifi/network access?
How many 6 foot tables do you need? What other “space” requirements do you have?
What other assistance do you need in preparation, setup, or anything else?
The event is from 1 pm to 5 pm this Friday at UTA. I’ll get directions and details to those participating.
Also, FYI… the UTA FabLab will be participating and will be bring (1)Student projects made in the FabLab, (2) 3D scanners, (3) Delta 3D Printer, and (4) the Oculus Rift.
I am working on summarizing all the details this morning and later today will be sending you the directions to the TEDxUTA along with a map and information about the loading area.
Also… if anyone has any project they would like to display to represent DMS but cannot attend the TEDxUTA, please let me know and I can come pick it up, display it on the table with our flyers, and then return it after the event. The TEDx event is this Friday afternoon at UTA.
