Whoever made this mess - you did not have permission from the Chair to rummage through and take things. Get your butt(s) back in here and put things back the way you found them.
@Julie-Harris might know about this
The folks from the Tarrant county maker space were given permission to get supplies from there. UTD engineering will also be getting some supplies from there as well. The tubs will be in flux for a little while.
And I was going to be told about this when??
Guess I’ll have to prod this along
So who’s idea was this? Who authorized this?
BoD? Mtng minutes please.
One person acting unilaterally? Sets a really bad precedent.
I can’t remember off the top of my head, but I do believe this was brought up in this last board meeting. I cannot remember the full conversation though, there should be notes somewhere with it if it was though.
I recall a discussion on this recently, I think in the last elab committee meeting, where we covered all the various options for distributing Tanner’s donation’s and what is easiest for DMS. Top of the list was donations to other 501c orgs, then bulk auction, then ebay, etc. We also discussed that we are actively moving toward getting these items and all the other auction pile stuff dispersed via one or more of those options.
@artg_dms what would you have liked to have been done differently here?
My recollection from the committee meeting was that it remained to be decided what was going to be donated and that one deliverable from that meeting was a list of what we have.
There are very likely things that could be gathered into project kits for “make and take” classes in electronics.
Yes options were discussed. No - no final decisions made.
Interestingly I don’t recall the option to first open up internally to other committees being discussed.
It would have been nice - proper protocol - to give me at least a heads up. I was not involved in the decision making process. I did not know about this until I came yesterday and found people I don’t know rummaging through the bins. BTW someone did tell our “guest” that what ever they take goes to their non profit org and is not for individual use. Don’t want to have any potential IRS issues.
To whoever set this this up - you need to inform our pillaging guests to stay out of the power room in 102 - ie the future hamshack. There are bins marked “keep”.
I am not impressed, not amused, definitely not happy with how this has been handled.
Times to make some rules??
That’s awesome, I’m glad we’ve found a way to make use of the stuff in those bins, rather than letting them sit around the space like a dragon hoard.
Hi Art,
In general these have been in the “this is a problem” category for about a year now, and have been slated for auction. As such, we opened it up to other non-profits to find value here. (Getting items to other educational non-profits is part of our goals/mission, so this is even better than auctioning)
I understand your reaction, nobody likes to potentially lose a resource, but we also need to make progress and these have been bumped around many times without adding much value.
If Electronics wants to ask for the bins and materials, or make a home and organize them, that would be great!!
What’s the plan? What do you need to make progress on using the items or making them available to our members first?
Jack
I was asked to close this thread and thus chose to since the reason has been provided. Another thread could be opened for discussion of the disposition of these bins and their contents or to organize a cleanup.
