Talk Statistics - How much talk is used

I’m going to be working on some statistics … I just did a couple of very basic charts

I want to get some data on how much talk is being used by the membership …

But here are a couple of charts … Keep in mind these are Talk users and not DMS members
I’m working on getting the DMS member data, ratios and charts …
But here we go …

I don’t understand the x axis for either of these charts.

It is just the users sorted by the item decending …
so the bottom are basically user numbers and the Y axis is the amount

I have a list of users with a column for say, topics entered, I sort that column descending and then graph it.

Oh so it’s the ID of the user?

In a manner of speaking … each number represents a user on talk … they might not match up to the actual ID but yes

So out of the ~2500 unique users, 1800 have never actually used Talk … if I understand this correctly.

Edit: Over a one month time period. Thanks gentlemen. I didn’t catch that.

One month time period.

Correct … not in the past month anyway …

These statistics are not correct, I question the data source.

From Discourses own reports panel:

Average of 211 DMS Members visit Talk EVERY day.

That is the number that visit everyday … but they are the same members over and over again
My chart shows unique members … It shows that only a very few unique people visit and even fewer view topics

I’m having trouble understanding what you’re trying to say.

My chart says:

Every day an average of 211 UNIQUE DMS Members visit Talk.

Yes … but that unique users is reset everyday … so the same member can visit the next day and still be unique for that day
Basically it is saying that everyday there are these member and we aren’t counting repeats in the same day…

My chart is saying here are the total numbers for the month sorted …

So what does your chart try and say?

My chart is saying here are the total numbers for the month sorted …

I’ll take a stab at this. Assuming the 1 day visits are new Talk members who decided Talk wasn’t necessary for them, the Talk forum in the month of August / September reached 20% (or ~500 individuals) of the Talk membership.

(I admit the 1-day visit limit made the math easy for me. Could have picked a higher number.)

I worked with Draco on Discord,

here’s the chart in a way I could understand:

The average user visits talk 9 times in 1 month.

This does not including those members that have not signed up … and includes people that once were members but are no longer members …

@LukeStrickland … how did you generate that table? Did you take the data from my chart or download the data … how?

Here is the actual data … pivoted …

I still don’t know where you are getting your data @LukeStrickland

Using Draco’s numbers I get a number in the same ballpark as Luke (7.8 and 10.3 depending if I include the first data point [0, 1841] in the integral).

For the record, I would state the number as being the average number of days visited in the month made by actual users.
