I just put an agenda item on the board meeting about this article:
I asked the board to sponsor him (or one of his parents) with a DMS membership. If it doesn’t fly @Lampy and I talked about splitting the cost.
Sameena Karmelly proposed hosting a “make a digital clock” workshop. I have no knowledge in that area but I think it’s a very good idea if someone wants to run with it.
Side note: Yes, this could be great press- but more importantly-I hope that we as a community see the good that we (and the tools this space offers) can offer his ripe little brain.
I’m for this, I’d like to see all the MakerSpaces rally behind this and show Irving Schools and Police for the ignorant oafs, no make that stupid oafs since ignorant implies mere lack of knowledge. This poor kid now has an arrest record associated with a fake bomb. This is going to haunt him the rest of his life. Can you say “No Fly List”?
I’m all for DMS sponsoring some youth activities, we can become a “Sanctuary MakerSpace” for the intellectually persecuted.
Maybe have a picture of Galileo on it - although that would probably be lost on them.
