I’ve been eternally beautifully self-centered lately (naps, midnight swims, ice cream the whole bit) and I’ve let DMS slip a bit out of hand. I just put our 5th meeting on the books for the evening of the 17th 7-8p, I asked the board for $250 seed money to buy the wood ($90) and publish the website under an actual easy domain ($160 for the year).
We shot the go fund me video - still need to meet with @apparently_weird
How does it(in the Adam video) or something like it turn?
well…not very well it’s more a straight run machine.
The only thing you can really do for turning is to essentially make two entirely separate parallel mechanisms. Then you can run them independently at different speeds, or even run one forward and one backward and pivot (that, of course, would only work in a non-bike configuration).
Unfortunately, that’s a good deal more complicated, and it’s still not what you’d call practical, but it’s all so darn cool.
If anyone is available we are going to cut the first leg on Friday night. We will need help sanding, cutting, finishing and in general just getting it all finalized. I’m guessing the time frame for work would be somewhere around 7-9:30ish bring a project to work on if we are delayed.
I will have my son with me - so party party
@Photomancer @motopilot @Robodude919 @mreynolds @Bill @
I’ll have my squirt with me also. I plan on going as soon as I get him from summer camp, so I’m aiming for around 6pm arrival
Yet another Strandbeest inspired project:
Saw him at maker faire - he has a gofundme as well
The gofundme is now live - please consider contributing if you have the resources and interest or just share it with your friends and family if you think they might be interested.
I shared it on my facebook with the hashtag: #buildabeest
Hopefully that will help with some traffic!
I forwarded it to nation of makers, my city Facebook site, and Multicam is going to push it out on Monday (that’s what she said)
Huge thanks to Chris (what’s his talk name) @dr_cee @Robodude919 @mreynolds @motopilot @apparently_weird who came out to help with the first cut last night. JJ will be releasing much better pictures from last night.
We are in business!
Wish I had known about this earlier! When will it be assembled and tested? Thanks.
It’s going to be a bit for all the pieces to be cut (we can’t even afford the wood yet) we are going to have an additional workday this Friday 7-8p
Next workaday will be Friday (3rd) 7p in the workshop
Huge thanks to JJ @apparently_weird for staying up all night to slice this together for us. I can’t upload the actual video - but please click the link and check it out.
Fundraising update:
- Three days - $170 donated for the gofundme
- I’ve asked everyone on my Facebook to share out the project and nagged people over twitter- I am relentless. Please share the link and help us get more exposure.
- MultiCam is going to share out our project on all the platforms they have at some point today - so I hope that drives up the support
- An intro video that JJ (@apparently_weird) shot yesterday will be uploaded at some point in the day to help explain the project a bit clearer to people who don’t want to read about it and everyone will see me without my glasses (yikes)
- Joe (@Robodude919) is going to mock up an example of what this is going to look like at completion so people have an idea of what it’s going to be like
- a huge thanks to @cghaly @mreynolds @dr_cee @motopilot who cut out the first leg, sanded it, took great care of its creation.
