Steam Cleaner & Pressure Washer

DMS Auto Folks - I am looking to do an under car detail; for those that do not know what that is, you basically pull all the under panels off and fender wells, and then steam them, and then pressure wash them, to get all the grease and everything under it.

Does DMS have a steam cleaner (like a nozzle-type gun, that connects to a unit) that connects to a hose? If not, i might buy one and donate it.

Does DMS have a hose outlet and hose in the auto area? or do i need to donate a hose for the shop. Any inside will be good, so i can come prepared.

Does DMS have a pressure washer by chance? I was going to look at getting a small electric one for the shop as well, it doesn’t produce a lot of water and is easy to clean up. Let me know if we have one otherwise it’s another donation I am considering for those that want to do the same thing after a good automotiv4e project, a clean underside or engine bay is where its at.

Here is what the equipment I am considering getting:

I am moderately sure that we don’t have water back in the Auto Bay area. Seems like I remember somebody running a hose from the Janitor’s closet (in the hall by the Unisex/Women’s restrooms) out back for some purpose. But there’s not a hose out back, nor a water spigot.

hwo far of a run is that from the janitors closet to the auto area?
100ft?

No we dont have a steam cleaner,

We do not have a hose bib out back, the closest we have is the water buffalo.

We do not have a pressure washer either.

Donations would be need to coordinated/ok’d with the current Chair @Bizwacky

You’re correct. We don’t.

We also do not have any drains in the floor … and our lease prohibits “(motor vehicle) washing or mechanical work” in the parking lot.

I dont plan to use that much, and i will clean it up as well. Steam doesn’t make much water and the little washing i am doing i plan to mop and sqeegy as well, i am one of those clean types and respectful of the space. I even bought a floor squeggy for the floor too.

I did an “engine clean” (not quite the same thing you are doing, I guess?) at my house once. also being “clean-minded” I put an old, large “utility” blanket underneath the work area to catch the lion’s share of the drips and goo and crud. It was a holy mess anyway, so I never bothered again. Were I to do it again, I’d use the same blanket with one of those cheapo large blue (or green) tarps from Harbor Freight under it, and an old queen-sized sacrificial bedsheet on top to throw away.

Old carpet you may see as “Curb Find” works great as the rough surface catches things. Then just roll up and put on curb.

gret feedback folks, thanks for the suggestions… Old grandma’s hand sewn blanket will come to some final use. haha kidding.

Take your hooptie to your local self service car wash:
Bring:

a floorjack - with a jack stand or two, none for the adventurous folks
eye protection
disposable coveralls
a wire brush and a scraper
a roll of quarters

Enjoy your detailing.

No one at the DMS wants grease and filthy water going into the storm drain from your chassis and drive train.

Ha!
The last carwash I went to, no longer takes legal tender. Plastique only…

But I wanted to show you my hooptie Tom. hahaha

If it has a plastic valve cover or worse an electric main coolant pump, I am not interested at all.

Jast - there is a special warm place for those that think the world revolves around Plastique and Iphones.

The place I use for cleaning off my car hauler will take currency and coin, old fashioned.
