Stainless MIG Wire

I have a 30# spool of 304 stainless wire. Either .030-.035. I believe argon can be used as the gas. Are we able to hook up argon that is on the TIG machine?

I’m pretty sure you need to use trimix when you’re welding 3xx series stainless.

You might just try running the Ar/CO2 mix we already have on the wire-feed machine and see how it does.

I’ve done some 308 stainless with TIG and pure Ar with good results, but I agree that additional gasses would help (He specifically).

Argon works to prevent oxiidation but He will produce a better/different plasma arc characteristics. But Zack has said, 80/20 will work unless say doing nuclear reactor welding. Now if you were Chris Carson just to be safe I’d say get He.

Thanks for the advice.
