I am planning on building a trailer setup so i can more easily do blacksmithing demos around the country
The challenge is that we do not allow any sort of automotive work outside of the building, it has to all be done in the auto shop- and trailers/ so on don’t really fit there.
We also do not allow storage overnight of the vehicles.
Both of those conditions are due to our lease, and not things that the makerspace itself can override
It is small, only 4ft×6ft and is maybe 2ft tall currently. Is there no space elsewhere in the space i could request? I currently have the wheels and axle taken off so it isnt a vehicle at the moment
Depends on how long you would need space for. I’ll need to bring it up with the rest of the logistics team, but I kind of doubt it. We don’t have that much large storage space for member activities, especially for something even of that size inside. And it definitely cannot be stored outside.
What foot print size is allowed?
Generally not. We make a case by case exception based on time of year, other projects ongoing, length of time needed, etc.
You’ve already mentioned the size, which is not entirely unreasonable, but it’s also going to debate on how long you will need it for/ etc, especially coming up on the holiday season. Also, with the ongoing efforts of expansion it’s hard for us to make arrangements.
Otherwise we generally we only allow up to 30 day short term storage on the storage shelves by the auto room. These obviously wouldn’t fit a whole trailer though.
Cause i can make it smaller if needed, im trying to problem solve. I would like some hard rules so i know what to work around. Yall tell me space and time i can probably make that work
There are no hard rules on this.
The short-term storage spaces I want to say are probably about 2 ft wide by maybe 3 ft deep by maybe 3 ft high, but are on shelves so have limited weight capacity/ etc. Those can be used for up to 30 days at a time. Generally, if the projects only going to be a day or two or more okay making exceptions even for slightly larger things, but it gets discussed between the logistics group every time it’s brought up- we don’t have any hard rules, because there’s not a generally accepted storage system for that kind of thing. Only exceptions.
Like… we don’t have rules for it because we don’t allow it. However, we occasionally/ very rarely will make an exception - but we don’t have rules for said exceptions.
When i have an exact plan, where should i submit the space and time request?
