Wood world is where I get most of my lumber from. They may even offer discounts to Makerspace members; they offer 10% off to member of a guitar building group that I belong to.

There is a new source of hardwood lumber coming to town - Dakota Premium Hardwoods. They are having an open house Thursday, April 2nd, 641 W. Mockingbird Ln., Dallas.

Just got back from the Dakota open house. Had them price some materials for me. I got a formal quote so I believe the prices are pretty firm.

Here’s a sample of the prices per board foot.

White poplar FAS/RWL $1.76
White Oak FAS/RWL $2.11
African Mahogany FAS $4.40
Aromatic Cedar $1.74
White Hard Maple S&B $3.27
White Soft Maple S&B $2.70

You can contact Harry Conklin at Dakota and tell him you are from DMS. Although, they are not open on Saturdays they told me that you can call ahead and they will probably stay there until 6:00PM or so any evening.

They have a huge warehouse and many more hardwoods than those I’ve listed. He said that they can special order almost anything, too. Lastly, he told me that Wood World buys wholesale from Dakota and then marks their prices up.

I think you can see that their prices are pretty good.

Wow!!! Based on that pricing, I’m going to visit there today. I’ve only bought from wood world, so this should be interesting. Thanks for sharing!
