Thinking since we aren’t using a large portion of space we could run a haunted house on Fridays and Saturday nights in October, charge like $5 a person. Discuss
hypothetically it would be fun.
I think the cost / effort of retrofitting the spare space would be too expensive, putting up trashbags / throwaway drywall panels or dealing with moving all the stuff currently in storage.
also, the return on teh invement of time and resources would be minimal. Special FX latex / silicone make up is expensive relatively speaking. and can’t be done from scrap / thrifted items. a number of my friends work in special fx make up and it takes a ton of creative time and energy to build a haunted house.
any underbaked half done efforts would only reduce the public perception’s of makerspace if we didn’t do fantastic at it. relative to the already very highly saturated market of other haunted houses, we would look pale by comparision without highly trained FX artists (who routinely undervalue their own skillsets but i digress).
THE CONSTRUCTIVE PORTION:
what would bring attention and revenue more effectively is if people capable of doing that skillset posted classes and brought more people in the building wanting to learn / do things. “halloween make up class!” “how to do special fx!” “Make your own costume!” with supplies (and the supply fee) included. since a communal pricing model would save a TON on the raw silicone materials that are prohibitively expensive to a single end user.
Let’s just build our own Meow Wolf…
“How many mushrooms would you like sir?” All of them…lol
