Someone please save this wood from the dump!

Two huge trees got cut down in the neighborhood recently. I’ve cut a few chunks off of smaller logs, but these massive trunk sections are laying on the curb ready to be picked up and take to the dump. I think it’s oak, but I was very surprised by the red grain pattern. If someone has the tools and they know how you could get some amazing huge bowl blanks out of this. I’d like one myself, but I have a small chainsaw and I don’t have the skills to tackle something that big! Corner of marsh and Crown shore in North Dallas, just south of 635. Right across the street are some large sections of Hackberry and another Oak ready for the taking.

@KBass is an Arborist and an expert turner. I wonder what he thinks?

Just ask him he’ll tell you what he thinks :joy::joy:

Kevin is the first person I told about this.

One thing about this kind of weather event is that there is such a wealth of wood available.

Totally agree. There are trees down all over the place. But around here this is at least twice the diameter of anything else I’ve seen, which makes it a super challenge!

Just the other week I saw a massive log that could’ve become so many things, but being injured, all I could do was wait for the city to haul it off… I really hope this one becomes something other than mulch!

If only Dallas had a mulching program! That’s the really sad thing, these just go to the dump.

Even if they don’t. (Not sure if they do or not) It would actually go to use. McCommas Bluff Land fill, the Methane is recaptured & put into the Natural Gas pipeline.

Lewisville landfill they generate power with the methane gas that’s captured.
