Your bucket is in the now storage room(Former Paint Room) on the shelving.
As for the other issues:
@Ian_Jaeger TCEQ is an additional concern which I addressed with Carrollton’s Environmental department. It just so happens one of our members is the supervisor of our environmental inspection technician for our location. I am working with her to get the information we need to stay in good standing with both Carollton and TCEQ. TCEQ is not the issue with the Kiln and I will post that issue here on this thread below in the complete list of current known issues. Also @apipe
The following are the issues the fire marshal had that were of greater concern. I spoke with him directly and these are the issues he mentioned were most important. He will type up and deliver the report to me when he meets with me next week to place our master key into the lock box on site in case of a fire, one of the issues that were brought up. These are mostly things we were already considering or maintenance items we should have already been completing. The marshal has more issues that were of minor concern and is going to give us time to correct them and work with us to get it done. The gentleman has been nothing but nice and willing to work with us to get it done. He could have easily locked our doors and pulled our occupancy permit till we fixed the issues, or could have been completely rude and nitpicked everything. Instead he has chosen to work with us and be friendly to keep us safe and in code, so please work with us to do the same.
See Below:
Kilns-These were shut down due to ventilation for them not being up to fire code, as soon as I receive the report this week I will post the info we need to bring them up to par with code which as I was told over the phone was also going to likely require a permit from Carollton.
Plasma Cutter-This was shut down due to improper ventilation for the fumes and risk of fire. A ventilation system will need to be installed which Metal shop has already priced but held off putting on the agenda due to an already loaded agenda. This systems installation will also need to be permitted.
Welders-These were not shut down due to the lower emissions from them however we were required to purchase and install a Class D fire extinguisher for hot metal fire. This has already been purchased by Allan and was placed in the Metal shop till we can properly mount it on a wall.
Paint Booth and Painting-This was already on our radar as @Robert_Davidson has already priced and looked at installing a proper paint booth. The room we currently have has inadequate ventilation, no proper filtration, no fire protection, and is both a health and fire risk. At one point the vapor from the room was venting into the area above the ceiling tiles between the roof. For now no painting is allowed in this room or in the space. The solution is to pay for and install a proper paint booth with proper permitting. Another issue is that currently the Kilns vent ties into the paint vent and causes and increased risk of fire.
Exit Signs-4 exit signs in the space two at the rear in the workshop and two in the front at the exits were sub par design. The lights inside could not light up the sign so it could be seen short of absolute darkness. @AndrewLeCody purchased 4 new signs and him and @william_petefish installed the two rear signs and I will be installing the two front signs tonight if all goes as planned.
Electric/Power Room-The electric room was being used as storage which is against code, we were asked to clean this out. My wife and I have already completed this task and moved everything not trashed into the new storage room aka the old paint room. This has been marked no storage and we ask that nothing is placed in the room at all.
Compressor room-The compressor needed to be moved fully into the room and the second door installed. @StanSimmons, @william_petefish, @Brandon_Green, Myself and I think a few others I cant remember had already moved it into the room. I am going to finish installing the door tonight.
Wood Shop Filters-The ventilation system in the wood shop was not being maintained and the filters were loaded with dust making them not work correctly. This was easily solved by replacing the filter which @AndrewLeCody purchased and replaced with the help of @william_petefish.
Extension Cables-Extension cables are not a permanent source of power for equipment and should not be used as such. If you are using the equipment and are working on something is one thing but leaving them plugged in can cause issues in the event of a failure of the cable or many other situations. Specifically we have some cables run for power to areas as a permanent use rather than installing a drop for that location. We need to unplug an extension cables not being actively used and store them until needed. Any taped down cables need to be treated the same way and the tape removed. Just don’t leave them out and plugged in when not in use.
Occupancy Permit-Our occupancy permit does not include everything we currently have within the space. As such we have to reapply for our occupancy permit to bring it up to date and it was recommended we include anything we plan to do in the future or might plan to do so that we do not have to go through the process again each time we do something. This would include and cover permitting certain equipment that requires permitting and save us the trouble of having to do it when we complete the future plans. The marshal will help us do this and answer any questions we have to make the process easier.
Carrollton Environmental issues: I spoke with Courtney one of our members regarding the inspection of our location by an environmental technician she supervises. She happened to be at the science committee get together so I picked her brain for a moment. She walked me through the primary issues they had some of which will be solved tonight.
Dumpster Drain-Our trash dumpster at the rear of the building has a water drain that should be plugged. It is leaking sewage which can reach the sewer system for the city. Simple fix is to install a pipe plug which I will retrieve today if possible and install it.
Hazardous Fluid Disposal-One of the biggest issues was tracking hazardous fluid disposal. At the space we are all on our own when it comes to disposing of any chemicals we bring in and use. The biggest concern was dumping chemicals down the sink drains which don’t belong in the cities drainage system. To resolve their issue with this I am going to place a sign on each of our sinks that say what is acceptable to dispose of down the sink and what is not. This will solve their concern. Also the HAAS cooling fluid was brought up and I explained it was sealed and we did not dispose of the fluid, that is was done by whomever services it.
Powder Coating Cabinet-The only concern they had was what we were using to treat the items to be powder coated and how we disposed of said treatment. I am assuming we plan to media blast anything to powder coat it and will pass that along unless someone can tell me something different.
TCEQ-The only issues about emissions that were brought up was that we might want to get them checked to ensure we are within the standards to be considered Permitted by Rule and if something requires registration then we register the emission. She said she could help us and I can pass any questions or information to her and she will check into it for us. She doubted we were over the standards for anything.
All the people doing the inspection are working with us to keep us on the right track and help us resolve any issues vs trying to shut us down so please work with us to resolve these issues vs trying to fight anything and everything they say. We are going to verify code and regulation or law on anything they bring up but we have to pick and choose our battles. I will pass the inspection report along to Andrew as soon as I have it so we can get started on resolving all issues and keep us on good footing with the city.
