Solvents are used in several maker areas. Do we have or would anyone be interested in a solvent recycling/recovery system? Or is anyone aware of somewhere in the DFW area that offers this as a service?
Good idea. I occasionally gather up the whatever leftover fluids are in Auto and take them home and then call my city to have them come pick it up, since they offer that service for free. In fact a lot of cities in the area have hazardous waste collection services for their residents, including Carrollton: https://www.cityofcarrollton.com/departments/departments-q-z/trash-recycling/household-hazardous-waste. And Farmer’s Branch offers free drop-off on specific days: https://www.farmersbranchtx.gov/700/Hazardous-Home-Chemicals; they don’t specifically mention it but I expect they require specific proof of residency like a water bill plus a gubmint-issued photo ID.
But these city-sponsored programs will still need a member here who is a resident of a city with this type of service to be willing to help out, and probably some sort of effort internally here at DMS to gather/prepare a bin of used, old whatever fluids and materials that then needs to be picked up by a member.
I know that 3D printing is working on an in-house isopropyl recycling and reuse system. I don’t know haw far along that is,
Ah sorry I should have been more clear, I was thinking of the ability to re-use the solvents :
In my case it’s paint thinner, but I know 3D fab and others can make use of re-usable solvents
Errr… So, the top option is about $4K. It can do a 5 gal bucket at at time. How long do you think it would take us to build up to a 5 gal bucket? And, who do you envision as running this thing?
$4k buys a looooooooooooot of solvents.
That was only example of what one is/was being referred to. Not a particular one to use. Others may be more familiar with what might be suitable.
