The computer in the metal shop attached to the plasma cutter froze mid cut. Completely unresponsive. Ctrl alt delete did nothing. It shut down and will not boot. Currently showing no hard drive.
The case is filled with debris and dust. I am here now and if anyone has any ideas I am all ears.
Yeek! PlasmaCAM down.
I’ll suggest tagging @Team_Infrastructure since they’re most familiar with the computers. Stan, I think, built that one, specifically…
Oh, and as for other ideas… Is the old one still sitting around? Maybe it could be pressed into service…
I let it sit powered completely off for around 20minutes while I vacuumed it out. Still gave me the same error on boot.
When you tell it to continue startup;
Hard Disk Check results;
Looks like the HD failed. I’ll put a new one in this evening.
It would appear that it has.
Now taking advice on how to realign a halfway cut piece once the computer is back up and running. I am thinking I can just run tip of the plasma cutter very close to the metal and eyeball when it lines up with the design on the screen. Then do that for a few different points on the metal tonmake sure it is square and hope for the best… anyone else ever have this issue?
Not personally, but you have the right idea.
You don’t have reference cuts, per se, but essentially, that’s what you’re doing. They’re at the end of the classroom slidedeck, if you want to review those notes.
I had the tip drag a piece over… I lined it back up and got it to less than 1/16" off and was happy with the results.
Great idea. I will review and hopefully be successful when the new computer is working again.
Yes, many many times. It’s not to difficult to get re-aligned.
Did you wash the computer out?
I’ve got the dead drive removed and a replacement installed with Win10Pro installed. Someone who knows what they are doing needs to install the PlasmaCam software from the committee drive.
I went ahead and did a default DHC PlasmaCam software install, and gave @dallasmagna, @jphelps, and @TBJK local admin rights. Please let me know if anything else needs to be done on the PC.
I really should have put the baseline config and script to replace it up on the fileserver. Oh well …
I big thanks to @StanSimmons @jphelps and everyone else involved in fixing this from me and those in my class next Tuesday! Sounds like it will be full speed ahead long before class time.
Is the plasmacam up and running then? Thanks for all the hard work guys.
The computer is up, and software loaded, but there are likely some tweaks that need to be applied by someone that knows the hardware better than I do.
