So much big hard wood

Still out on my boss’ global walkabout… found all of this yesterday and thought the woodshop folks would get a kick out of these.

Also, before anyone else says it: yes, this is what 3rd world exploitation looks like. You don’t want to know what they quoted me on prices for these things.

How much less than $10 per slab?

A little bit more than that, but not by much! The big horizontal one I’m standing in front of comes in at just over 7k… including legs and finishing…

plus shipping…

Right… there’s that. However the quote he gave me was well under what I expected… but only got it to the port of Los Angeles… the expensive part is likely from there back to Dallas!

You’d be surprised. If you’re not in a hurry, Port of LA to Dallas, for wood (crated up) that size would run you less than $1K.

It only gets expensive if you need to move it fast. If you have 2+ weeks, they’ll leave it in the intermodal and send it via train to the yard in Dallas, and then do a short-haul truck service to your dock.
