Snipe on planer?

Am I the only one who has been getting a lot of snipe on the planer? I know I had a flat side as I had just jointed them.

The last 3-4 or so inches were pretty bad.

Did some googling and YouTube searches and don’t think I was doing anything wrong in particular, and I don’t remember anything in particular about snipe on the planer from the woodshop class.

Boards were walnut, 1-1/4" thick, roughly 36" long.

This was a week ago. Forgot to report it as it was pretty late when I got home.

No, a slight out of adjustment can lead to this. Best case is to account for this when purchasing your wood, add a few inches. There are different techniques that can be employed to overcome the snipe. I tend to place my hand under important items(maintaining level) as the board leaves the out-feed. You can also use the thin stock sled that is kept under the table for smaller & thinner boards. Unless the snipe is excessive, it can usually be sanded out.

Join in on Saturday’s shop day and you can discuss this with the member that maintains the machine. The cover will be off and you can see inside and how minimize the issue.
