Does the CA inventory need metal snaps for leather or other crafting needs? Tandy in Irving has 100 ct bags of Line 24 snaps for $20.
Also, I’m looking for a one on one sewing machine instruction possibly Friday night or Saturday. Is anyone available? Thanks! I’d also like to bring my mother who has sewing experience and would like to join DMS!
Re snaps…we just reorganized sewing tubs. There are no snaps but I think the kind you’re saying might not be ones heavily used in sewing enough to tie up that $/space
Snaps/leather, I think we have some but will leave that to leather. @bitta?
re sewing help…I’ve pointed out this post to someone that might could. If that doesn’t work out, I may know another.
In general, the sewing SIG (special interest group) met recently and we are pipelining more sewing classes. We just had a 101 last night. Ideally at least will be every couple weeks plus other offerings. Others in the works.
***There’s a serger class now scheduled for those wanting serger class
Yeah, from a sewing perspective, I’d think you should bring your own snaps. I wouldn’t expect DMS to provide them, so a deal to buy them wouldn’t suit. Leather might have a different point of view.
Thanks Jeannie, I appreciate you forwarding my message on! My mom might be interested in the serger machine, and we just missed the sewing machine class on the event schedule or would have signed up for the class.
Thanks for the pricing heads up on the snaps. We currently have some line 20 snaps and are trying to keep various types of hardware on hand as we have setters. We are watching our budget closely with Nicole as we try to fill in some of the gaps in tools and supplies as classes develop requiring and demonstrating them. We are kinda holding some things in reserve for Tandy’s big annual fall sale, of course. As we have yet to develop a donation system for leather supplies, we are focusing on tool acquisition over consumables outside of what has been purchased with classes and general use in mind and generously donated.
That’s what I was thinking. I do need some for a costume project but I don’t know how many I will need; an entire bag of 100 or more? I would be willing to buy 2 bags and donate the remainder, though I don’t have a setter or punch. Does the leather supply closet have them? If not I’ll get those as well.
@brschepps I’m curious what kind of project calls for 100+ line 24 snaps??? THat’s a lot of big snaps!
I have a set of Line 24 snap Dies that fit into the Hand Press at DMS. I’d be happy to loan them to you for your project. msg me and we can work out the details.
This would be for a clone trooper armor project. The snaps would be used in the strapping from piece to piece, and it is suggested that two snaps be used on each side. I’ve heard that most stormtroopers use around 108 in total, but this will be a little bit different. This may be an over estimation, but at that $20 price I’m willing to be over prepared than under prepared. Normally the price on a hundred count bag is between $40 - $60 from what I’ve found .
Plus I’m guessing I’ll probably mess up a few in the process.
Ah, that is excellent! I have a friend who is currently building Kashyyyk Trooper armor, and I’m drawing out plans to make him a DC-15S Blaster rifle. We’ll see how that goes!
As I said, I have the line 24 snap setter and you’re welcome to it. It sets perfect snaps every single time. In fact, I’ll be at DMS teaching a leathercraft on Sunday from 8-1130. I can bring the setter if you have time to swing by. That setter isn’t one I normally use, so I can be without it for a while.
Up above, if you missed it, it looks like Beth @dryad2b might be around to help if you’re or your mom just needing a quick machine intro. She had a question on that.
If y’all can’t work it out, I may know another (not on Talk, so I’d have text her). Lemme know if you need that.
The next 101 class is sept 21 so if you want more that’d be one to watch for. We might get something basic sooner as well, but still working on it
If @dryad2b is able to do so, great! M y mother is looking at Saturday around 9-noon, 6-10pm or Sunday for availability and it would be to get checked out on the machine. I will be observing, but not necessarily do I have to get approved for use if that won’t work with someone’s schedule. I’m trying to be flexible here if scheduling is tight. Mom wants this more than me.
