Smoking feathers

Saw this video on The Book of Face and thought that y’all would like this.

It would be a bit smelly to do indoors, perhaps @Team_Science would let you use a fume hood for it?

Feathers can be very snazzy, but tricky to get the temperature of the pot just right. Horsehair leaves awesome lightning-like trails across the pot. Heavy grain sugar is also a really cool choice.

This is actually the focus of our next round of raku in the fall! We’ll have a class on terra sigillata (which gives the pots a really smooth and porous surface that takes the smoke well) and then head back to Conor’s to fire. Keep an eye out once the temperatures start to be less…skin melting.

I second the horse hair!

Actually, we’ve got our own set of vent hoods. They wouldn’t be smell-free, but they pull air out and would significantly reduce the stink.

Other than that, the rest of that is definitely an outdoor activity, as others have said.
