These silicon mats make for good, small project table surface protection, as well as protecting projects from nasty DMS surfaces. I 've purchased similar for a little cheaper, but haven’t seen any better deals recently:

The protectors for our woodworking tables (current or future ones) are a great idea. By which I mean as long as people: 1) actually use them; 2) clean them when done with; 3) don’t ruin them, e.g. cutting; and 4) don’t misplace/misappropriate them.
