Slate box-what kind of glue for joints?

I need help joining slate tiles to make a box. Anyone have any experience with gluing/joining stone?

Probably I would use an epoxy colored to match the grey.

Also there is a glue technique that is often used while cailking as well. I think if you take your time and setup good stable clamping you could finsih it off with epoxy. You can take blue tape and run it on each side of the joint as close or as far as you like. Then add the epoxy to the joint and strike it off with a tool. Once the joint has been struck off, then you peel the tape off. This will leave a nice uniform joint. Let it dry and them move on to the next joint.

If you have never done this before, it might be hard to visualize and understand. It’s difficult to describe, but easy to know once you see it done.

I’m thinking the grey JB Weld epoxy might match well with the grey. You might want to experiment first. Good Luck! Cool idea to make a stone box.

You could also try grey thinset or grey sanded caulking, but the epoxy will give you the strongest bond over time.

There are special adhesives for gluing natural stone. Here is one example:

Epoxy Modified Methacrylate Adhesive

Some people also report success with Liquid Nails.
