I’m signed up to take the SLA class this Wednesday. I recently learned that one cartridge of formlabs resin costs around 175 dollars! Jeez!
I’m only planning on printing a few high-quality miniatures every now and then (the polyprinter did an okay job but it’s brittle and lower resolution).
Does DMS stock resin? What would you guesstimate a few small (1 inch) miniatures worth of resin would cost?
only asking to see if it’s worth learning for just that use case
Oof pricy! But if it’s 30 cents per gram a la carte, a few miniatures shouldn’t be too expensive… We used heroforge to design our DnD characters but we didn’t want to spend 20 dollars on each one. Just downloaded the STL and took it here to print. So much cheaper. And kinda fun!
You have to consider the quality of the result compared to traditional FDM along with the time needed to “clean” up the print into deciding whether the added cost is justified.
The current policy pertaining to resin is only use the DMS provided resin. The problem with bringing your own is we don’t want any resin contamination with our resin reservoir. The user would have to supply their own resin AND reservoir tanks and for most that is just not cost effective so we decided that only the DMS provided resins would be available for use with the SLA printer.
So bottom line…Only DMS provided Resins can be used in 3D Fab.
And yeah, no, I’m saying the cost at DMS is pretty sweet for the quality, and my quantity. I was shocked by how expensive a brand new liter of resin was. Come to think of it, that is an entire thousand grams…
Do y’all have the ceramic resin by any chance? It looks so interesting!
