SIG meeting and Tuner install Saturday Mar 17 18 at 10am

we’ll hold an Amateur Radio SIG meeting in the E-Lab on Saturday, March 17 at 10am.

Weather permitting we’ll go on the roof to reinstall the SGC remote tuner and get that capability operational.

Please plan to attend

For those interested, I’ll be at “Hams n’ Eggs” for breakfast before the meeting. That’s an informal gathering of amateur radio operators at the Whataburger near Old Denton and PGBT/Trinity Mills. You are welcome there, too.

thanks to Richard Meyer, AG5OB and Andy Parcel KE5KOF, both of whom braved the elements and made the arduous climb to the roof to replace the SGC autotuner on the HF antenna.

We tested the tuner extensively and it worked as advertised. The manufacturer said that it had a bad capacitor, which had been replaced.

We discovered that the power wire (there are three wires that go to the tuner - +12Vdc, Gnd and TND (an open collector to ground indicating that the tuner found a suitable solution) had high resistance and tuner would not power up on the roof. We ran a parallel power and a parallel ground, and it worked.

So, bottom line, it’s operational and ready to use.
