Shut down 3d fab

I’ve spoken to Mitch about this but I feel it would be a good idea to shut down 3d fab for a day just to fix printers, recalibrate, get stock inventory, and see what we are missing… problem is everyone comes to the space randomly and 3d fab is used almost non stop. If we were to shut down for repairs… what would be the most optimal day. Our busiest is all the time… slowest is when we are down a few printers… this would be like laser. Those who help the committee might get goods… or prefered things…

What say ye?

I say it shouldn’t be scheduled during a low time, but instead during a time when the most people can come in and help.

As long as it’s scheduled and posted in advance, it can be down for a whole weekend day every month (shouldn’t need to be), and that seems entirely reasonable.

Remember, we have members, not customers. Members have to understand that scheduled maintenance time is a necessity.

When you decide, let me know the day/time and I’ll post a banner on the cameras page alerting people. There is a similar banner on Metal Shop right now if you’re curious.

I would be glad to come in this Sunday after lunch and help out.

We would probably give at least 3 weeks in advance notice… that gives people time to plan accordingly

I also think shutting down for maintenance at the most convenient time for people to come help is the best bet. Amazing what 10 people can accomplish in 2 hours of maintenance time. Those printers would look great after a good toothbrushing all over.

You could also “close” a couple of printers at a time so they’re not all out of service at the same time.

Just let me know and I’ll plan to be there or be square or whatever!

I love this idea. I don’t see any problem having a full day, any day, to give the 3d printers some TLC. They are workhorses, and deserve to be loved on every now and then.
