Lots of us are doing cool things at DMS all the time, but most of our fellow members don’t get to see. Post here & share the interesting things you are doing at Dallas Makerspace this month!

Posting here helps not only promote Dallas Makerspace, but could inspire others to make something. It will also help PR enrich social media content in our blog, Instagram, TikTok, or other social media (with attribution to each maker of course).

:bulb: NOTE: Please try to include the following on each post, to help make for better social media content!

  • a QUALITY photo
  • a note about WHAT you’ve made
  • WHO you are (for attribution)
  • HOW you’ve made it
  • and WHY

Hello everyone, Thunder here sharing a little leather project. This leather skull candle holder was made from veg tanned leather, hand cut and stitched. It is about 4-1/2 to 5 inches in dia. I plan to add some stain but wanted to share photos before I do. I will be making a lifesize one as well, but without the candle holder.

A little woodworking this month!

Amboyna burl (pen blank) and swiss pear. Three-way lap joint supports under bottom shelf.

A whole bunch of laser-cut fixtures including rough routing the legs, mortising the 3-way lap joint and assembly, which was like assembling a house of cards because the legs don’t have planar surfaces.

The initials are the only laser work on the piece itself.

As always Chris, your work is amazing and very beautiful. I love Amboyna burl as it turns nicely and is very beautiful figure. That is why it is so expensive to buy. Nice work, once again!

Thanks! I got lucky to find a piece with grain approximately the right scale for miniature.

Ink Wells with exotic wood. This is Purple Heart wood. I am a calligraphy instructor and Graphic Designer of more than 30 years. Trying to find a little better way to dip into ink. Billy spent a lot of time with me, providing excellent instruction on making the process to produce many go smoothly. Woodshop tools used were the table saw, jointer, planer, miter saw, router, drill press and sander. I really could not have done this project without the help and advice from DMS Members, John F, Peter P., Britton B., Bill V and Billy I am so grateful y’all helped me with this project:
