Should I move to Carrollton?

So, I’ve lived in the same modest house in North Dallas for 25 years. Twenty-five years ago, I had nice neighbors, and Dallas proper wasn’t a bad place to live.

Presently, most of my nice neighbors have moved on either physically or spiritually. Many of my newer neighbors are quite unpleasant and inconsiderate. They do not make my neighborhood a nice place to live.

Also, Dallas police are so understaffed that crime in the entire city seems to have gotten out of hand.

I had bought my current home hoping that I could retire there, but I’m beginning to think that may no longer be feasible. I am considering a move to Carrollton. Can anybody offer any insights as to whether Carrollton might be any better or that it might be a lateral or worse trade?

DMS is a factor in this relocation consideration as well. What are the odds that DMS will remain at or near its current location for the foreseeable future?

I moved from Carrollton northwest (looking back i wish i had moved a little more west and north) but my drive to DMS is 20 minute ish outside of crazy traffic times.

Dms isn’t the first cooperative work space and won’t be the last but it is nice and convenient.

From someone in the mortgage biz, now is a terribly time to finance a mortgage due to the rates. the inflated market isn’t helping either, but if neither of those are an issue then I understand your desire to move. I’m starting to think I need to move away from all this dang heat.

DMS isn’t a major factor. If it moved to DeSoto or disappeared in 10 or 12 years, it would be disappointing, but not be the reason I regretted moving.

My current home is paid off, but needs work. One decision is whether to invest in my current home, or trade up.

Our recent Aug. trip to Minnesota and Wisconsin has us checking real estate.

Ditto. And Maine, and Michigan, and the Dakotas, and Utah, and… Arizona,
less so; see “heat”… :grinning:

Not technically opposed, eh. (Babel language lessons paying off!)

I’ve also had this thought despite the broad terribleness of the real estate market nationwide.

Legitimate question, but how big is your home? I can definitely recommend a few people who are looking to move into the North Dallas area, but they have some fairly specific requirements on size

Carrollton for the most part is solid middle class to lower middle class housing and many of the homes are older. Not to mention the garbage tier foundations that it seems like every builder in Carrollton (and north texas in general) used. That said Carrollton’s crime statistics are in line with its GDP per cap and population size. The place were Carrollton really falls behind is schools, we have good elementary schools and ok middle schools but the high schools are all mediocre at best.

Overall I am happy living in Carrollton, we have great restaurants and good highway access.

Depending on what you are looking for consider Frisco or Coppel for more upper middle class communities and better schools. Frisco for newer homes, Coppel for the established feel.

I’m going to Alaska nine days from now specifically to escape this heat.

Currently in a 2 bed, 2 bath townhome just over 1000 sqft. I’m not looking for anything big but probably bigger than what I have now.

I currently have a short commute to my job located in Farmer’s Branch. I’ll probably be there for awhile and don’t want a longer commute.

Although, Coppell isn’t that much further away. Frisco? Yeah – that’d be the Commute From Hell. But Coppell is just the next city to the east. Minimal extra time.

There are plenty of nice neighborhoods in Dallas. Also, making an effort to befriend your current neighbors might lead to a better neighborhood in general. Sometimes it just takes a catalyst. Lake Highlands is a great area to live in Dallas.

Visit those places in the winter and see if you’re not just trading one extreme for the other. We take family trips to the U.P of Michigan and they have snow markers 12ft above the road.

Fully aware, and yeah, probably. But at least I could complain aboot the 12 feet of snow on the ground for a change. I lived in Cleveland in the early 90’s, record snowfall conditions, and L O V E D it! I was surprised the locals were SO distraught about a few inches of snow. I mean, it’s FREAKIN’ CLEVELAND! Snow should be in their blood, right? But for me, then, it was temporary, so there’s always that I might just be trying to convince myself I don’t HAVE to stay in Texas for another 30+ days over 100F Summer. The temporaryness might help.

I’d love a temporary move to Belgium or Germany for the next 30 years.
