Cool, right? – yeah, but I have an actual USE for it too! This will weld aluminum, and do it upside-down – and both are not things I’ve done nor am looking forward to doing.
Of course, I’m not expecting to find one in the 'Space tomorrow. But I figure there have to be some small welding shops somewhere in the city that may have something like this – if not for rent, at least to quickly and inexpensively weld an aluminum stud for me.
I have no idea where to start looking, though, other than going down the Yellow Pages. Anybody have any suggestions?
I went to their website, but could not find a price or a reseller. They just want you to send your info for a quote. I’m guessing maybe in the $400+ range.
Oh, man, I would JUMP on that at that price! I’ve never seen a stud welder that could do a 3/8" stud on aluminum for anything less than $2k. Then again, I’d never seen one that could do it as a fully handheld portable unit either, and yet there it is… So who knows?
I’m basing this WAG off a lot of the stud welders for auto body work are around $400. It probably is more in the 2k range as I can’t find a price, only send info for a quote!!! Usually means more than I want to pay.
Nelson studs are the Kleenex of this kind of thing… I’ve only seen them used for structural concrete work, though. Studding deck pans and armor joints are two other common uses.
