Shop safety ain't what it used to be

Years ago I refurbished a 1950s era Shopsmith 10-ER. It worked great as a lathe and a drill press. However, the tablesaw function was scary as heck. The manual provided these helpful instructions for cross-cutting. Yikes!!

My dad had that exact saw. It is scary as hell. Both he and my brother each took off a small portion of a finger on it.

Man look at that exposed blade! Hope no shop cat ever nestled up under one of those…

And then the lawyers got involved… everything else is history…

Free vasectomy with each saw purchase.

Only if you’re really tall.

I love the free-hand cross-cut. What could go wrong?

That you free your hand.

No safety glasses but at least his sleeves are rolled up.

And I have a weird urge to chuck up a 10" blade to the lathe now.
