Shelter-in-Place Order Issued for Dallas County

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins on Sunday issued an order requiring residents to shelter in place.

The order takes effect at 11:59 p.m. March 23 and continues until 11:59 p.m. April 3.

The order states people may leave their residences only for essential activities — including to get supplies for themselves and their families or perform tasks essential to their health and safety and that of others — or to operate essential businesses, such as healthcare, critical infrastructure and retail, including grocery stores.

A detailed list of what qualifies as “essential activities” and “essential business” is included in the document below:

@mrjimmy did you ever formally respond to whether the grace period for lapsed membership is going to be extended, especially in light of recent developments? Alternatively, has the board made a determination if a request for temporary assignment to starving hacker would affect grandfathered membership? It was mentioned but still cannot find it in the documentation on adjustments to the policy.

The Starving Hacker tier has been discontinued.

why was it abused too much?

Here’s “the document below”

Heavily.

We still offer discounts for students, retirees, first responders, veterans but those are all separate discounts and one is not able to purchase it without receiving a promo code from us (whereas anyone could purchase the old starving hacker without saying a word)

So I’m under the starving hacker membership. Should I send my student ID or is there something else I need to do?

We are not booting people off the rate that are already on it, so you’re fine. If you leave and rejoin we would need something to see you’re a student to give the discount then.

Guessing by the radio silence there is not going to be any overtures by the board to extend grace periods for lapsed membership to protect rates…or any adjustments for unemployed members at this time.

The documentation I was referring to was a statement in another thread that the grace period was extended. As stated on the website right now, after a 14 day lapse anyone with a grandfathered membership will lose their rate. Seems a bit harsh given how extensive the financial hardships may be for the next few months due to the shutdowns in so many sectors. Especially considering grandfathered rates are long standing members of the space.

Denton County just ordered their mandate.

We have discussed on several occasions that if you see a financial hardship then by all means cancel your membership. When you come back your training would be in place. But we have no idea how long this is going to last so we haven’t put a date/time on it. Can tell you it will be as fair as possible for the member and DMS. (i.e. asking to for a refund going back 6 months is not likely to happen)

Yeah the post asking for a 6 month refund is ridiculous. Are we still doing motions for board consideration?

I’d like to propose that membership who can document loss of employment or reduced hours due to state, county, or city mandates will be allowed a 60 day lapse in good standing before their rate is forfeit. (Maybe 30 if financial projection on 60 days is too extreme?)

So it’s clear, right now I am able to pay dues and it appears that my husband will continue reporting to work as well. This is not a motion for myself but one that I feel is necessary to demonstrate we ARE a community and have empathy for affected members. I’m sure just emailing admin and asking for a waiver on a case by case basis is feasible but I don’t want DMS open to accusations of favoritism with everything else going on lately.

As I contemplate this issue, it strikes me that it is something we probably shouldn’t quantify until this is over. Until DMS is open, and people are working again.

And, the “this” I’m speaking of is the reinstatement of a grandfathered rate. I know that our system is not set up for any sort of refund.

And, really, the dues that one has paid should be “water under the bridge”. If one is using DMS for business, $50 or $60 per month should, really, be a minimal expense. If it isn’t, there’s something wrong with your business model.
