This struck me as a nifty device to have on hand, but I don’t know if there is any interest, or if there is, specifically in THIS unit.

If I read the manual properly, the punches can be as small as 1/32" and as large as 2-1/4".
Footprint is 42"x13", so it’s drill press sized, I think…
I actually do like the idea. I was discussing with Chuck & David within about the last couple weeks about getting a small inexpensive one. It was cheap though, a hand held one for 35$. I may end up buying that one anyway to use for knocking holes for the micro switches for the new lathe.
Can’t speak to the big fancy one
But for anyone seeing this that does smaller work…I think I might have that small one mentioned above or similar of the $35 one (got from Rio Grande Jewelers supply). It has a lot of inserts for range of size holes, easy to switch out, a stop you can for consistent depth from edge, easy to use with very moderate hand strength. Anyway, it’s awesome. Best part is VERY clean holes. I didn’t feel the need to file them to clean up. Great for jewelry and holes for rivets and some other projects
I don’t know if jewelry has this, but if not, it’s awesome, affordable, and would make a great addition @nausser915
Old(vintage) American/European made machinery is far far better than new bright and shiny (pretty) crapola from China any day. There is that problem for some that means you may have to clean off the decades of dirt and grease tho - definitely not for anyone in fear of breaking a fingernail.
I’d vote to get it Tim!
Do you have a link to it? Their web site has a massive number of products on it.
I bought mine from Amazon

We have a small disc cutter that has served us well thus far. I am not sure that we have the floor space or funds in the department for that bad boy, but thank you for thinking of us!
I have this and it’s awesome. I regularly need to punch 40mm holes in brass. At the moment I have to punch small holes, to make a hole big enough to use one of those screw punch things for the 40mm hole.
$1500 is a lot of money, but I would use the hell out of it
Perhaps we collectively need to decide on our future tool purchases & order that we want to get them.
Here’s the one I have. It seems sturdy and well made for heavy use. And I’ve ordered from this company for years. They make right the rare issue. I think they may have some kind of flat rate on some shipping now (you’ll have to read about that).
Yeah, hate their website. I always just call them to order. But their paper tool/metal catalog is a glorious thing that one can curl up with and drool over for hours. And make lots of circles for the wishlist
The Rotex and the hand punches are in totally different classes of capabilities. The hand punches do maybe the 5 smallest sizes that the rotex will, and the rotex has 15 more sizes that are larger. You likely won’t often see a rotex on the market.
The Rotex is also for punching much heavier metals
The Rotex in the OP is still available and the seller has lowered the price to $800.
If a committee can give it a home, I’ll donate $50 toward getting it and some elbow grease toward getting it working.
Anyone else want to go in on it? I’m willing to put in some cash
I would be willing to bet that metal shop would give it a home.
How deep is the throat? It looks like the holes need to be within several inches of edge.
The manual I linked to says it’s 18" throat depth…
That lets you get to almost the center of a 36" sheet, which is pretty good.
I’d be willing to to drop a Benjamin.
