Sheet magnet material - cut or not?

Been using the laser for a while now, but mostly on wood. Inspiration for a project has struck me, but it would involve using the laser to cut sheet magnet material.

Does anyone know if any of the lasers are cable of doing this, and is it safe to do so?

Thanks in advance!

I doubt it, lasers don’t cut metal.

Maybe if you polish the metal to a high gloss first, it might work? :smiling_imp:

Look up the MSDS on the material. That will explain what is released in burning of the material. if it is basic CO2, you should be fine.

But, I would bet that the sheet magnets will not cut well on the laser, not because of the metal content, but because the material is kind of weird when exposed to heat. I’ve seen it bubble up a bit and get sticky when hot. But, if the MSDS says it isn’t releasing bad fumes when burned, go a head and test it. But watch it close, in testing your never all that sure how the material will react to the laser.

Magnetic sheet is not solid metal, it is a metal powder held together with another flexible material. I would bet it would cut some what, but need the MSDS to make sure the fumes are not toxic or corrosive.

According to our wiki it “cuts beautifully”

Just make sure the sheet you get doesn’t have a vinyl or pvc layer.

Composition might vary depending on source and use, so do please check the MSDS, or send to team_laser for review.

Then test a small sample to test the cut quality.
