Sharpening scissors

CA has cheap scissors that get used for everything and we have good scissors that should be used
only on fabric Do we have a way to sharpen these? Are the cheap ones worth sharpening>
Also we have rotary cutter blades that get too dull to cut fabric

At one to two dollars each when purchased in bulk, I would say general purpose scissors are not worth sharpening. More expensive scissors that are specialized might be worth sharpening. Google has some suggestions but I haven’t tried it myself.

It would be good to let folks know that scissors are included

That’s what I meant, I’m not sure that was planned and I’m also not sure there’s going to be another class, that’s all up to Axel, who taught a great class last time,.thanks again for that

yeah - about that - scissors were not included in the original sharpening class but were attempted as a favor to one of the students in the class…we can do them but they are a pain.

When it comes to scissors - if they are held together by a rivet, clean them, make sure they are aligned. and if the rivet is loose, use a few gentle hammer taps to tighten said rivet.on the edge of a solid vise. - but with that said the VAST majority of riveted scissors are cheap and just need to be replaced.

If you’ve got a “good” pair of scissors held together with a “good” screw then it may be worth cleaning up the sheer edge of the scissors after taking them apart and cleaning them of wax and adhesive residue.

Scissors are not “sharpened” in the traditional sense. What you’re attempting to do is properly aligning the sheer edge on both blade faces removing any nicks and bringing the sheer surfaces to a near mirror finish which brings about the illusion of being “sharp”.
