Anyone know how to sharpen a 14" crosscut carcass saw well and willing to spend a some time teaching me how to do it? I can usually manage to sharpen in a rip configuration but am now just making the saw dull and misshapen. Thanks for your time and help.
You probably weren’t looking to spend a day or any money on this, based on OP, but just in case someone thinks it of use, Woodcraft has a class on the 15th that covers this, along with a some other related stuff: Hand Tool Basics & Sharpening (scroll down to April 15th). It looks like there is a typo in the start time…probably starts around 9a.m.
Thanks. I view the video
Thanks. I hadn’t thought of Woodcraft. I think I have got to the point where teeth are no longer uniform and I’m having trouble reshaping teeth.
The other thing that occurred to me in the afternoon was this guy (I guess his name’s Nick): https://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/tls/6063577473.html
He finds and fixes up planes and saws and such…I often drool over things he has on offer. But, as a punt, you might want to contact him with an offer for him to spend some time w/you to get your saw back in shape. If he does that sort of thing. Just a thought/alternative…
Thanks a lot. This is a big help. Now I just need to see if he’ll help me. Maybe I can pay him to guide me or watch him file the saw for me. He clearly knows what he’s doing. Good saw for the price. Thanks again much appreciated.
