Now seeking someone to organize and paint supplies based on boxes.
In the sewing cabinet we have several clear tubs all numbered with corresponding supplies. A sewing kit for every sewing machine to make life easier for our makers. So far it’s worked pretty well.
Buttttttt
It’s come to our attention that for some reason items get switched about and rearranged frequently - even with things being numbered. @Kriskat30 and I are looking for a volunteer to step up and color code each box (plus numbers) in hopes to minimize the disorganization/speed up the reorganization. Each box would have a specifically different color - nothing close to each other and the color should be on the box somewhere (handle). This volunteer would also make check-sheets for supplies so the next member getting the kit could check to make sure items are included.
We received a large donation of nail polish for faux marbling and I think that will do the trick if it’s not we can purchase some colored duct tape or something else. Everything should be numbered in accordance with the box # and everything should have a very easy to find color.
Each box should have the following (I’m doing this from memory so… double check)
A pin cushion with pins
Sewing scissors (don’t you dare even whisper paper at them)
A fabric measuring tape (retractable)
Small sewing scissors (nips)
Chalk pencils (although now I think its pencil)
White thread
Black thread
A box to hold bobbins
Bobbins
Extra sewing machine needles
The sewing machine pedal
The sewing machine manual
I’ll play with this idea late afternoon/early evening. Instead of nail polish, I think a combination of vinyl snips and markers might work well. That way it’s easily replicated into the future.
(I also want to tag the spool holders for the sewing machines. Having one disappear has already caused me trouble.)
There are 6 setups? May I choose the colors that work best with the marking materials available?
We should have 5 for all the Janome machines and others for the sergers
(well we have one right now I’m slated to buy another next walmart trip)
Yes give the vinyl scrap a try - let’s see if it works out. Good thinking.
If you organize and come up with a shopping list I will get missing items. Hopefully this will minimize some of the walking off/misplacement.
Feel free to add a little “put supplies back in corresponding box” on the top of the check sheet.
One of those should either be for the embroidery machine or the serger. So, technically, there should be 7 boxes. Numbers 1-5 should match the Janome sewing machines.
I’d like to have us add ball-point sewing machine needles to the list. They wouldn’t have to be in every box, just in the bigger box of supplies. They are very helpful if you’re sewing knits of any kind.
2 other things that need to be in each box, a hem marker and seam ripper, I know we did have seam
rippers in each box back in the summer,
And I have a question, Would there be any interest in some button, mostly shank and metal or metabolized plaits with
a military of heraldic design? I will have maybe a half cozen of one size and the others in about the same amount in
other sizes, I will veve add a plasic storage box for them,
