Sewing Machine Basics?

Hi there my name is Claire, this is my first time actually posting anything so forgive me if this isn’t the right way to go about asking.

I have been interested in learning the basics of using a sewing machine but don’t have my own machine. I know we have a lot of them at the DMS but am unsure if anyone ever teaches classes?

I looked through the list of events and haven’t found anything that aligns with my goals. I’m wondering if anyone would be willing to either meet up with me sometime to help me learn or if there would be anyone willing to host a class?
I would absolutely be willing to compensate anyone if they were willing!

Please let me know!

Hi Clair! I’d like to support the scheduling of a sewing class! I’ve been wanting to make slip-covers and cushion-covers for a couch…

This is fine for the lesser-required classes. Would Thursday 8/29 at 7 pm or Sunday 8/31 at 3 pm works for y’all?

Greetings Claire.
I teach basic quilting using the Babylock Zest sewing machines owned by DMS, as well as at least one go on a vintage mechanical (non-computerized) sewing machine. In the first class, of a 3 class series, we go over basic sewing terminology, functions, and anatomy of a sewing machine. Then each student chooses the panel (picture printed on cotton fabric) kit they like and we construct a quilt, utilizing/practicing all that they have just learned. By the end of the series, each student is qualified to work independently on the Babylock Zest sewing machine, has a good foundation in construction of a fabric project, working knowledge of machine operation and where to get help.
The next class, “Make an Awesome Quilt” starts on 9 September and features quilts saluting muscle cars and motorcycles. There is a lot of good information in these classes which is put to use immediately, and the student will have a beautiful usable quilt at the end. Check it out on the Events Calendar. If Motorsports are not your thing, I have nature theme kits also. Contact me here or on Discord @Eltici55 . Hope this helps.

Thank you for reaching out I am currently getting over Covid so when I’m better I’ll keep an eye out for one of your classes!

Hey, I’d love to join! Are y’all meeting on Sunday?

No. We went for Thursday, and the class is full.
