Screen printing press

The wiki shows that we have a screen printing press but i dont recall seeing it. Where is it located?

Thanks a bunch

The one in the new Creative Arts Annex area?

That be the one. Thanks

Update: CA asked the BoD for space for the Silkscreen and was granted space. We temporarily received space for the Shapeoko as can be seen above and marked off.

The Shapeoko has now been moved into the CA room where it will start to be refurbished-etc.

We have now returned the space the Shapeoko was occupying to Storage @ESmith @Brandon_Green We have adjusted the boundary to just what we need/asked for.

Interesting outcome. I wonder if electronics can use the remaining space for the pcb router?

Do what we did, ask the Board of Directors for a space allocation, the Silk Screen was specifically petitioned for because of it’s size. The Shapeoko stand will be rebuilt on a smaller footprint roll-around stand that encloses the router and will have fans that blow the chips away and over to opening that will collect chips in a tray for dumping out. Our goal is to make it easy to store in the CA room and easy to roll-out and use in the shop with the router, computer, and accessories all in one place. Since it’s 120V, it’ll plug in anywhere. You you could probably do the same thing with the PCB mill - and it’s even smaller than Shapeoko.

i talked to Pearce about building a new box for the screens. I will start this week, but am wanting on info about the heat press we are getting for it.

We have 3 screens with existing graphics. 2 MakerSpace ones, and the GoCupi. We have 5 clear screens avail for use.

When designing the box to hold screens, take into account the footprint of the taped off area around the Silkscreen it must fit within those limits of our allocated space. There is some space to the side and some behind it.

It may also be possible to build a small rack that hangs from underneath to shelf above and comes down to just above the Silkscreen on the left side (as seen in the picture).

We appreciate your efforts! Thanks.

We can add casters too. it is nice the screen press rolls.

The next time you or I am at the Treasure Palace we should grab some.

Or ask machine shop if they can spare some.from their cache.

I’d feel like I’m robbing from myself!

I’m getting some screens and emulsion film. What do we use for emulsion?
liquid or film? Exposure unit ?

I’ve been working trying to find a company that would burn our screens for us (at the makers expense) for people who don’t want to deal with photo emulsions - so far I’ve come up flat. But I’m still trying.

We have no exposure unit - we don’t have the water pressure to wash them out. Thus I was looking for an outside source to get them done - not that you had to but it would be nice.

We have a 150watt heat lamp that we use to do the photo exposure. The emulsion goes bad too fast for us to stock it. I recommend people who want to get a screen, buy it with the emulsion pre done. Its way easier and means we dont have to stock it.

It’s worth noting that due to the completion of vertical storage, the former Creative Arts Annex has been relocated and reduced in footprint to accommodate the screen printer with accouterments. No cheeky photo this time - just look for the usual yellow tape.

Reduced is a strong word, maybe reconfigured, where it is now is deeper than the brown pallet racks it was under, it is rotated 90 degrees and I think more accessible since nothing is hidden behind anything else.
