I was printing last night on Savage, using AMS A1 for my spool of PETG filament (plastic spool}. After about 15 layers (of 200), there was an error that the AMS motor was overloaded. I was in the woodshop, so I went and checked. The spool was rotating freely, no filament entanglement. I resumed the print, but after 2 more layers, the same error. I resumed a couple of times, but eventually this morning I canceled the print (at 40 or 50 layers, I think).
My roll of filament is in AMS slot A1 and my personal gold-colored PEI plate is still in Savage, and I will pick it up later today.
Anyone, feel free to remove the plate and use the DMS plate, but please leave the filament in the AMS to avoid the moisture in the air to get to it.
Does anyone know why this error keeps happening? I have seen that notification before, from other members prints. I guess I should have paid attention to which AMS the problems occurred on, and avoided it.
Normally this happens when the spool is getting stuck often the case with cardboard spools which is why we don’t allow them. Some times the spool can seem fine to you but something is causing it not to spin. Depending on the brand it could also be the angle if the spool is getting low.
Ok, it was a brand new spool. I will be over there shortly and see if I can figure it out.
Well if it is cardboard brand new does not mean much. Also Nova Maker spools do not work in the AMS because of the taper on the edge of the spool. What brand is it?
Same thing happening to me with new cookiecad PLA. Has a plastic spool but keeps saying the motor is overloaded (even though it’s not tangled). I keep resuming but it’s going to drag the print out.
I can’t tell from the pictures online what the edge of the spool looks like. When this this last happen? I just worked on both printers on Sunday.
I’m here now and it’s happening roughly every 10 mins or so. Nothing stands out to me about the way the spool is loaded but I’m fairly new.
Can you try a different slot? I want to know if it is the slot or something with the spool.

Switched to slot 2 - I’ll keep you posted.
So far so good! Thank you @3dzignsprint for the suggestion.
If your print completes successfully can you put a blue tape on the front of the AMS that says “FF failing slot 1” so I know which one to replace.

Printed just fine after switching to slot 2. I added a note to the AMS!
