Saturday Potluck and Boil!

Got everything except sausage. Should anyone wish to bring some nice Andouille sausage or other type of sausage
to throw in the pot, that would be mucho appreciated!

I just realized the need to warn anybody planning to bring food tomorrow that the microwave oven in the galley is broken. If you need to warm the food, have an alternative method, like a hot plate or Sterno cans.

You could also bring your own microwave.
I say this because it’s something I hadn’t really ever thought of, but watching some folks doing extensive landscaping work recently, I was surprised to see them unloading a countertop microwave on an extension cord. I couldn’t figure out why they needed that for landscaping until lunchtime rolled around. It then became obvious.

If the microwave is beyond repair and is the non-inverter type, I’ll haul it away. The transformer will be useful for a super Jacob’s ladder or a welder/metal melter or…

Wheee! Yes! Sausage please~!

Don’t think I’ll need the microwave, but if someone could check and see if there’s
a hose to fill 5 gallon water jugs at the utility sink that would be appreciated. I have 3
full jugs that I’m bringing, but they will need to be refilled at some point. Thx!

Also if someone could bring a means of playing music and we could stream some jazz that would be awesome!

Tons of fun last night. If you want to contribute to Liz for her efforts (and expense) to do a boil please make arrangements. @L_Becker put in a ton of effort last night.

It really was a lot of fun! Thank you so much for all your help. Let’s make this an annual event, Yes?

Definitely,
If we had to plan options what do you think?
I’d love to figure out personal pizzas, possibly stir-fry or fired rice. I know you already have a large wok. I’d like to try more Wok style cooking.

If I had my way, I would do two major events per year in conjunction with the annual open house. Crawfish boil in the spring, Chili cookoff in
the fall, then a smattering of other smaller members only events monthly. A nice big barbeque would be good!

I like the pizza idea. we could build a temporary wood fired pizza oven in the back and provide a selection of doughs and toppings.

All great ideas,
We could rope @Nathan_Jones to help with the temporary oven. I remember being taken by his story of his yearly camp where he makes his own wood fire oven. It sounded like a lot of fun. As far as barbecue, I think we can definitely figure something out.

I learned how to make pastrami with @Lampy a few months back and after resting a day it was SO GOOD. If I could figure out the costs I would be up for a barbecue/smoker event. Smoking a turkey would be fun as well. That reminds me, we have some talented bakers in the group. I know @HankCowdog has a touch with rustic breads / chillis, When I was trying to learn to bake bread @Photomancer shared stories of baking as well. Also, Mark Havens has a culinary touch as well. Maybe a bread and sandwich meat made by friends potluck would be fun as well. I know I have bread recipes to try and I could make turkey, pastrami or corn beef. Have those that want to bring food instead of cooking just bring sides?

Well I’ll try not to run on to much. If you want a partner in future crime, you have one.

Awesome! I think I’m going to lay low for the March potluck, maybe do a braised pork loin or something, but after that I am open to ideas. Definitely want
to do something for Cinco de Mayo, although I probably have outside plans for Memorial Day. Oh! do you like ceviche?

Ceviche is good, I’ve never made it. Anything with fresh fish is a win in my book.

The oven I make at summer camp takes a few days to make and cure, and is really heavy.

I would suggest making something like the Uuni:

It’s light, easy to clean, easy to store, and uses pellets.
