I have a question on the new procedures. I have a woodshop 101 from long ago, know all the machines, and I’m trained and have used the multicam cnc numerous times. Yes, I’ve read through this forum but I just want to make sure I’m reading this correctly. I need to get to woodshop 3, making of cutting board included, to use the regular router table again? Is that correct?
You can use the router table (and most other tools in the woodshop) now. After the expansion move, RFID readers will be added to these tools and will require specific sign-offs. Since you’ve already done 101, I’d suggest scheduling the 102 CVrash Course (I took it this morning… it’s a quick 1 hour session) to make it all official and get ahead of things. After the RFID readers are installed, 102 will no longer exist and you’ll have to take all 4 of the new classes to get access to the same tools that 101 and the new 102 Crash Course make available.
Thanks. That’s what I thought. If I only had the time… I’m not going to take all four of those classes and I don’t need another cutting board. For what I do, I think I’ll just take my monthly $50 and move along. Just needed some confirmation.
You don’t have to take all 4 classes. If you are already in the AD group for 101 (with access to the table saw, for example), you only need the single 102 Crash Course class. It’s a measly one hour.
But, with all due respect, if this is enough to cancel your membership, you’re probably not getting any value for your $50 anyway… and almost certainly not contributing back to the DMS community. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
Just to be clear … the changes to general woodshop tool training do not apply to the Multicam. If you have been approved to use it, then you are good to go. I do strongly suggest you review the operational notes and the 6 videos concerning changes to the Multicam. These can be found here and can be done at your leisure at home:
Also, as Brent mentioned, you are only one short course away from being fully certified in the entire Woodshop since you have not apparently taken Woodshop 102 voluntarily in the past. (I had not either but solved that by taking the Crash 102 last week to get caught up on the new manual router table set up.)
As for the attitude on Talk … it bothers a lot of people. The interesting thing is that the same folks who sling flaming arrows from behind a keyboard can be really nice and helpful when they are at the Space being a Maker. For some folk, being alone with a keyboard or a smart phone brings out the imaginary monsters that haunt little kiddos at bedtime! There is good lighting at the actual Space and the monsters are pretty much either hiding or on a leash in those conditions.
FWIW @tymt, I think your initial question and response was reasonable and honest, not deserving of a send off like you received. I will also note that you quickly engaged in the “creepy attitude” you profess to not like.
Disagree. His initial quesion was fine, from his first response he displayed the all too common entitled customer “gimme” mentality, leading to petty passive-aggressive threats and culminating in profanity when his wishes aren’t immediately granted.
