Robot Builders Night Out - is this active?

I see it on the calendar, but I’m not sure if that’s a stale entry.

How many folks show up? Is there an agenda for the day or is it ad-hoc?

It is fairly active. It is put on by the Dallas Personal Robotics Group and hosted at DMS. I would say there are anywhere from 10 - 20 people on a given Tuesday.

As I understand it, they are keeping the group alive out of shear enthusiasm. They haven’t had a structured session in quite some time, and the group leader has not been able to make it to the meetings in months. Not that I go that often or that long. They seem like a fun group, though.

In the past few weeks I have poked my head in there and there are always quite a few in attendance…

The group is “active” indeed. Feel free to stop by and join them, I am sure they will usher you in with open arms.

…X…

Fun group - spot on!
Folks are always welcome to stop by, and a handful usually do -each and every week.
It’s a great environment to trade tips, tricks and ideas.

about the comment “They haven’t had a structured session in quite some time”
You have GOT TO BE KIDDING!
That opinion couldn’t be further from the truth.

Let’s check the facts:

  • Several formal competitions each year, including well structured rules and sponsored prizes.
  • Frequent participation in community events, raising positive awareness for robotics and STEM and all kinds of scientifically focused initiatives
  • Each month has a regular Saturday meeting in addition to the weekly builder’s night out.
    — For example, this Saturday is what will surely be well worth the time with a presentation on “Source Code Control Basics” which will include an introduction to GIT, a code repository platform…

Thanks for the info.

I did drop by earlier today, and there were 8 to 10 folks, informally chatting and trading knowledge. A guest family came by along with their middle school kid and was given an engaging intro by one of the members.

For anybody else wondering, the RBNO is not a structured event with an agenda, but the Saturday event is.

Cheers!
