I bought a beautiful cut glass vase, about 15" tall with a filmy white layer on the inside. I thought it was a water residue buildup which can be removed with a vinegar soak. NOPE, something else more plastic related. It had resisted Dawn, acetone, white vinegar and lighter fuid, the second one surprised me.
Any additional suggestions? Paint thinner. Kerosene. Anything else?
Brush on some toothpaste. Many home cleaners use toothpaste as an alternative to baking soda. Apply some regular toothpaste to a moist towel and rub it over the stain using circular motions. Wait a few minutes, and then rinse off the paste with equal parts water and vinegar to remove all residue.
Or maybe try limeaway bath.
If its plastic related sounds like it was manufactured to be there.
Have you tried some goo gone? - soak a paper towel with it and place the paper towel on the coating - you might also research anything used to remove elmers glue - I’ve known several hobbyists who colored glass pieces with pigment mixed into elmers.
Try one of the household “fizzy” cleaners … “Baking Soda and Vinegar. Fill the vase with warm water, pour in a tablespoon of baking soda (more if it’s a larger vase) and pour in white vinegar. It should fizz and eat away at the residue that’s built up. This is especially good for mineral deposits that don’t come off with scrubbing.”
