Sweet car!! (I mean the packard… )

Both are a labour of love for him…and the odd thing is his wife supports these activities!

She probably knows what else he could be doing instead.

That and he’d best never question what she brings home.

Funny you should say this, Tim. Anytime someone says “Just how many hobbies do you have? Or do you really need another (knife, gun, tool, etc)?” I tell them my wife supports it because she knows I could be be doing something else like drinking too much, gambling too much, or some other very bad habit too much.

Making is all about doing something constructive you love right?

Nice restoration Tom. You’re going to save anothe German one aren’t you?

Dan,

This isn’t mine - I don’t have the hundreds of hours

this guy has in blocking it alone. I posted it for sale on CL as a complete parts vehicle, needing total restoration. Sadly the guy is going from diesel to petrol. but that is what his rusted out donor truck is.

This guy even straightened the cargo bed - no one does that - they cover it with rainbow bed liner crapola. This guy is nuts!

I have another truck - same year, make, model but with all the modern mechanicals TDI and the old N/A diesel for sale - if someone wants an adventure.

Now that is some “restorative justice” I can get behind!

wow that is gorgeous!

Welcome to the Makerspace James!

Calling a VW Rabbit truck “gorgeous” is a bit of a stretch but I will pass on your compliment to its owner.

One man’s VW Rabbit truck is another man’s Gremlin…just sayin

Thanks TLAR! Glad to be here. I was actually referring to the Packard

Honestly, a beautiful restoration doesn’t depend on a personal opinion of a specific vehicle.

A gorgeous restoration is just that, it doesn’t matter if it’s on a 1969 RS SS Camaro or if it’s on a 76 Maverick.

You are welcome !

The Packard owner / restorer is the same guy that is restoring the old Rabbit truck he bought from me, and as the photos above show, he is not cutting ANY corners in this restoration. Only someone dead serious about a high quality restoration / repaint strips the body down to just the shell. Anyone that has displeasure of removing & installing the glass, seals, mechanical parts of a car door (without damaging the finish) can appreciate the the level of crazy this endeavour is…

11 months later the guy sends me a few photos of his paint last weekend. Last weekend the exterior, the weekend before last was the underside and, engine bay and cabin.

Look at the straightening he did to the cargo bed! Here is a photo with dents in it. (Most truck "restorations or resto-mod folks go cheap and coat the bed with ‘spray in bedliner’ Material. Not this guy and his Red Paint!

The flip side of that is I’m not sure you can call something a truck until it has its first dent deeper than 1/4 inch in the bed.
