With us closing doors tomorrow night how is billing going to work

I guess we could do the unthinkable and pay our dues to support the community…

Devils advocate here. Suspending drafts and letting people pay a donation if they can may be a fiscally sound option and help with some goodwill/PR. I pay my dues monthly despite usable time at the space being weeks of the year with my current treatment protocols. Pretty solid on the concept I pay them for the community I want to see continue, not because I can use them.

This is an unprecedented level of WTF. I’m on a monthly pay cycle and my district is closed indefinitely. The board meeting to decide if I get paid or not isn’t until the end of the week. It’s possible I’ll get a big middle finger and the six weeks w/o pay will become god knows how long. My husband who is hourly is already reduced at his job…and we are lucky because I probably will be paid eventually. Some industries are laying off indefinitely and immediately because their business can’t absorb the loss. Refusal to visit the idea of suspended dues means a lot of people on regular membership becoming starving hackers.

I am going to keep paying mine.

I want a makerspace when the epidemic is over.

Monthly members can cancel anytime. Hopefully enough folks stay the course though. Undoubtedly some businesses and organizations will go under during this pandemic.

Mine will continue unabated, earlier discussions notwithstanding. Thanks for letting me simmer it back down, J.

I will keep mine active as well, that kinda goes without saying.

Not sure how I’m going to stay out of trouble though while we are closed.

I don’t think my question was worded right I guess because I was only wondering if there was a plan if we couldn’t come to the makerspace for weeks to longer sorry

There’s nothing stopping members from donating their dues as usual if they’re able to. Obviously given my green dot I’ve let mine ride well before this. I also acknowledge that’s a privilege some may not have for a short while and we don’t have an option like honorarium to help them. The bad taste of “you couldn’t stay the course for a month so sucks to be you” has a decent possibility of losing members entirely. We have many passive members who believe in DMS as a family/community atmosphere instead of a corporation. They pay because of the spirit and are fiscally a net positive. Showing lack of empathy to how they’re affected in a hot zone is a great way to turn members into clients who only pay when it’s good for them.

I said nothing like what you’re saying. You’re reading things into my post that simply aren’t there.

The struggle is real. Lol. I took this week off to spend with my kids on their spring break. Normally by day 3 I’m wanting to get out of the house. I’ll probably go fix my sisters sink tomorrow.

I’ll stay the course, I don’t know everyone at makerspace but its fun to run into familiar faces and chat and learn. Its worth more than just tool access to me.
