It’s becoming necessary to find an assisted living facility in the “North Dallas” area for one of our parents. Area roughly bordered by Tollway, LBJ, Parker or Spring Creek and um, Garland Rd / Hwy 78. If anyone has any experience and has any recommendations, we’d appreciate the input. There are so many and the cost structures are all over the map and there are so many places with lots of 5-star reviews that don’t have a 5-star smell when you visit…
This site is run by a former makerspace member and should have some good info:
Thanks!

Just did a comprehensive search of senior living in the Carrollton area is this was the best I found for independent living. They are also partnered with an assisted living center.
Thanks, we will check it out. It’s a little far for daily back-and-forth, but it’s good to have comparisons.
I’m afraid Carrollton is out because it’s too close to the, um, “bad” grandkid… Lock up your prescription drugs, yo.
My Mother-in-Law lives at the Sun Rise Senior Living Center which is located near the intersection of Preston Road and Parker Road in Plano. She is 90 years young and has been there for almost 8 years in the Independent side. They have 3 sections, Independent Living, Assisted Living, and an Alzheimer Living Center. She loves it there.
Hint: If either of your parents were a Military Veteran then they can get a monthly allowance towards their stay. Get with me for details.

Thanks much!
I am looking to move my mother-in-law here from Houston. We looked at Lakeview and I thought it was awesome. I also like Highland springs if you’ve got the financial resources. Both offer nice amenities, lots of activities and comfortable facilities.
Police Station is just across around the corner
Founder’s Plaza in Wylie is excellent. Their medical director is the best doctor I know. New, clean, and professionally operated.
Willow Bend in Mesquite is a hell hole. If you really hate your relative, this is the place for you.
It might be worth your while to consult Medicaid Solutions for Texans in Plano. They were highly recommended to me by someone I trust and who is very experienced in such matters. They’re a law office specializing in getting Medicaid to pay for long term care much sooner than they otherwise would, thus preserving the savings of the relative and other family members. It looked like what they set up for my wife’s care was going to have Medicaid pay for all of her long term care, but the need went away before the process was complete.
All of this information is based on experiences two years ago.
Avoid Heritage Manor in Plano.
Thanks for the recs everyone. I think we’ve settled on a place - not corporate, no-bs pricing (i.e., more than 4 meds a day=upcharge wtf?), and it’s very close to our home.
Now someone gets to go to Texarkana and break the news… glad it’s not me!
