[RESOLVED] Righty Needs Re-Z (2/7 @ 8am)

Got in here about 8am (sat morning), and righty has been having problems with Z. When I started a job, it was saying it needed to be re-homed on Z, and to turn knobs (I didn’t). If someone could take a look.

Thanks.

So, its apparently not fixed… I just tried it when it got free and same problem.

As of yesterday around 4pm I was able to re-adjust the Z- endstop. It had been backed out about 5mm which I’m not sure how that was even possible unless someone was really messing with it.

It was printing fine after that, issue has been fixed.

Thanks for getting it going again Mitch. I printed a piece for the race car as the first job after the fix. Worked fine. I appreciated the help on what was my very first print too.

Thanks for reporting the issue with the Z Height (and the updates)…

I had seen the post not long after Mitch posted that he had fixed it; and, I had to ‘fix’ it again… I discussed it with him and he mentioned that the Z had been several mm too low… When I arrived shortly after, it was several mm too high!

I am not sure why the Z height keeps getting changed… :confounded:

Members who own or rent PolyPrinters and use them at their homes/businesses pretty much never report repeated issues with the Z height/calibration. On that note, we really should NOT be having ‘issues’ with it either.

The only time the Z height should ever need to be adjusted if there is a significant difference with the filament or bed dressing. Since 3D Fab purchases high quality filament, it’s very rare that we have a problem with significant variance in the thickness of the filament; and, since we use the same tape on the beds (based upon which extruder is currently installed on any given printer), there should be no change with regards to the tape.

That being said, unless you are an employee of PolyPrinter, or otherwise approved to train and/or maintain the printers, please do NOT adjust the z-height. Members calibrating it incorrectly is one of the top reasons that a printer is reported as ‘down’ (even though it’s not really a ‘problem’ with the printer; but, rather - in most cases - it’s user error).

Thanks again, y’all!

ps… Don’t forget to request to be added to the unofficial 3D Fab Google Hangout - to be able to report issues and ask questions for the quickest response! There is almost always someone awake and online on the ‘chat’!
