Hi guys,
Wanted to bring it to the attention of the laser committee that the laser seems to be cutting weird. I believe it is an issue with focus, the laser focal point is more like a diagonal line, instead of a dot, I put a not on the laser warning of the issue. The issue was noticed yesterday, sorry for the late message to the committee, kept forgetting to write this up.
Someone put a tile under the honeycomb. I removed it and corrected the tilt in the bed. Should be fine for now.
Why do they do that? Remember when we found a half sheet of masonite that was smoldering.
Thanks for the quick fix. Could we maybe setup a class on Laser maintenance? I’d like to know the full set of things to check and to be able to help fix / clean the machine in the future.
I too would like to be involved in a class on maintaining the Laser. I’ve watched a few of the videos on the Full Spectrum, but nothing beats a hands on class.
Just as an update, the laser is certainly not working correctly, the power is greatly diminished. Settings that I had written down previously are ridiculously low now. Just to cut through some 3 ply 5mm plywood I am now having to use a speed of about 10 with a power of 100 when before I was using speed 100 and power of 60.
Also I have left a test board next to the laser PC for you to look at, these are rasters at 100/100 in top → bottom and bottom → top cuts, if you look at them from the side of the board you will see that the cuts are deeper at the end of the cut. So there is definitely something wrong with the laser cutter.
I will be happy to discuss it with you in person or to explain more what I have observed. Just email me or PM me and we can get together.
This issue is resolved, and the topic is now closed. New replies are no longer allowed.
In addition to @AndrewLeCody removing the shim, @Romeo_Espana came in earlier tonight and performed some cleaning and calibration. It’s cutting very nice again! Thanks Romeo!
Regarding classes, Romeo mentioned he will be willing to hold a class on cleaning the laser. We will post a separate thread once the details are sorted, etc…
Thanks!
