[RESOLVED] Full Spectrum Laser Cutting Issues

ALL:

We received a report that the laser is not cutting properly. It looks like something has been knocked loose. We will look into it today; and, someone from the Laser Support group will post an update once the issue has been resolved.

If anyone can provide additional details as to what may have happened, that would help narrow things down a bit. Something like this can happen when it ‘crashes’ against the side of the laser, when the Z is being adjusted and the honeycomb bed gets bumped and wedged under the edge, etc…

Also: If something happens while YOU are using the laser, please let us know by sending an e-mail to: [email protected] ASAP to minimize downtime, as well as to provide us with a better idea of what may have happened.

Thanks!

Lisa

Michael may have fixed the issue. He ran his fingers down the X rail and it seems the optics had jumped the groove it rides in. He had no clue as to why this happened, but after he popped it back the laser cut for him perfectly for hours. @LisaSelk, not sure who to ask, but we might want to makes sure that there is nothing going wrong with the belts as that was Michael’s guess for the cause.

Thanks for the info @Nick! That would explain why the guys could not reproduce the issue when they were working on it. At least two members have used it since with no new issues reported, so I’ve set the Tool Status page to reflect that the Full Spectrum laser is back up and running.

BTW… Which Michael was working on it; and about what time was it? In-case the guys who were looking into the issue have any questions, etc…

Thanks again!

It was Michael from creative arts, Chris Marlow had the issue early in the day, and noted everything, and Michael came after lunch and fixed it.

Thanks, @Nick! And, thanks Michael from Creative Arts!

I’m guessing neither of y’all were aware of this thread; but, going forward - if y’all do happen to know there’s an open issue, it’d be most awesome to get an update if there’s been a resolution (and what it was, so we can make note of it…). Again, I’m guessing neither of y’all were aware of this thread, so no worries. Just something to keep in mind in the future.

Thanks again!

what i noticed was that the lased optic module itself was not installed ideally or possible correctly.
I also cleaned around the belt area because it collected dirt and dust…

I removed the laser optics and reinstalled the way I was told by pearce and things cut perfectly… I have seen many people replacing the optics back and forth between the fine / normal cuts and I just dont think they are putting them on tight enough or in the right position, which might cause alignment issues.

thanks!!!

Thanks (@macapaka)… 'n good points!
I’m hoping we will be able to come up with some written instructions for things like that in the very near future… It’s going to be especially important to know the differences between the two lasers - once they are both up and running!

Thanks again!

@LisaSelk et. al.

I would suggest that threads like this (concerning laser being down and then repaired) be locked down when you add the ‘RESOLVED’ to the thread title.

My understanding, since I have been following closely, is that the laser is still down and this threads ‘RESOLVED’ is from a previous break down. But since a new post (or mod) move this up to the top, I think it might be confusing to someone who doesn’t follow talk closely enough to know it is a older thread.

Hi Walter (@wandrson)…

I actually usually do lock the resolved threads right away - unless I am leaving them open to allow posts to gather more information. This was one of those cases, since I was hoping to learn more about what was done to resolve it. Michael (@macapaka) responded last night and provided some valuable feedback. I will be locking it at this time.

Thanks!
