Repairing the vinyl cutter

A new pinch roller assembly for the vinyl cutter can be purchased here http://www.signwarehouse.com/p-P-BK00502F.html for $35 dollars. I have some projects that require the full width of the cutter that cannot be done because one of the pinch rollers is broken. I see posts wanting to buy all sorts of equipment for many thousands of dollars, is it too much to ask someone to spend a paltry $35 to fix the vinyl cutter!

I don’t think it’s too much or unreasonable to ask, but there are (or should be) popper channels to getting this kind of thing handled. I think it would be an appropriate thing to bring up at the weekly meetings on Thursday, or emailing ops or the committee directly if you can’t make it or need it sooner.

I have some funds available for this. @dr_cee, if you want to handle purchasing and installing this, please do so and then send me a receipt so I can reimburse you. Optionally, you can have one of the procurement officers (such as @bscharff) purchase it and they’ll take care of the receipt stuff.

May want to get 2. I know one of them has a little trouble sometimes.

I don’t mind ordering it, and installing it. It has been suggested ordering a spare, and should we consider any replacement blades? Shipping is flat rate, $6.99 for one roller or two. Also there will be sales tax charged unless we submit the paperwork for texas tax exempt status. Cost breakdown:
Pinch rollers $35 each; 45 deg blades $8.50 each; shipping $6.99; tax 8.25%.

1 roller + shipping + tax estimated to be $45.45
2 rollers + 2 blades + shipping + tax estimated to be $101.39

Let me know your preference, and I will place an order.

Go for 2 rollers and blades.

Need a hand when installing? I know it’s not exactly a labor intensive process, but I’m looking for an excuse to get introduced to the vinyl cutter. I’ve worked with them extensively at a previous job, just haven’t used ours or whatever software we have connected.

I ordered the rollers and blades, expected delivery next week, but came today. Must be local distributor/company, hence the sales tax. I will be at the space today by 3 pm, not certain when I will replace roller.

Will be at space today about 3. Not certain when I will replace roller, but you are welcome to come by and assist. I generally hang out in the 3d print room with Tom. Name is Chuck, and wear suspenders!

Cool! I can’t make it over today, but can tomorrow and I’ll be there most of saturday afternoon/evening. No need to wait up for me though!

The new pinch roller has been installed, and the cutter is functional. I cleaned off the table and put stuff related to vinyl cutting in the top left file cabinet drawer, and stuff I thought not related in the top right file cabinet drawer. I still have the new roller and blades. Plan to put them in fc drawer also, unless someone has better idea.
