In the arcade world this is the biggest risk when working on monitors. The high voltage will hurt - like a high energy ignition on a car, and the biggest risk of danger is where your arm and hand is flying as you move it away from the source of pain. Tubes get necked, glass goes flying, high voltages arc afterwards… parts are hot so you can get burned… etc. It’s scary how fast things can go wrong when you react that way by instinct.
As for the gloves in machine shop - machines there are 3 phase. While you may stall your Harbor Freight drill press at home when your gloved hand tangles up, you won’t stall a three phase motor in machine shop. It’ll take your fingers, hand, arm, etc… before you can even realize what is happening.
