Remote Network Access & Software Downloads (new member questions)

I have looked through the various categories and not found this specifically. If someone could point me in the right direction to these questions:

  1. When I took my tour, the guide stated that DMS had software for download by members or were network versions…(?) I am unable to locate any chatter about available software.

  2. I was under the impression that we would be able to remote into DMS servers, access storage for our projects… etc. I do not see any links to this topic or any links to a remote access login.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Bill Winans

We need to get the jumpserver added to the New Member 411 actually.

In the mean time here’s the details of the jump server: JumpServerFAQ - Dallas Makerspace

Hello Bill, I just recently figured this out recently, so I’ll try to help you out.

To add to what Luke said, this is the specific part of the page you want to look at.
https://dallasmakerspace.org/wiki/JumpServerFAQ#How_do_I_Access_the_Jump_Server.3F

Assuming that you’re using Windows, you want to open Remote Desktop Server
It’s a built-in program that you should be able to locate by searching in your Start Menu.

You should see a window something like this:

Enter physical.dallasmakerspace.org in the Computer field

Now enter dms\wwwinans in the User name field
I was stuck on this step for about a year, not realizing that the “dms backslash” was an important detail that I left out.

You should be able to click Connect and enter your DMS password (I believe it will be the same one you use to log on to computers at DMS)

As for saving your personal files, there will be a drive labelled M: (for members)
In that folder you can create a directory with your name on it, and that’s where you can place your files.

Hope that helps!

RD Client for Android is about as simple, set mine up yesterday. Granted a desktop screen on my phone takes a little getting used to
